Very few names in the history of cricket have been under the spotlight for as long as Pakistan’s legendary all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi. Be it for his criticism, or for his love, the media just cannot get enough of Shahid Afridi who finally set to hang up his boots from International Cricket following the close of the 2016 ICC World T20. While the fact that Afridi’s batting form has deteriorated over the years is no stranger to any cricket follower, the latter part of his career has been troubled with unjustified and over criticism. The all-rounder has not had the most memorable of farewells, but somehow someway keeps fighting whatever is thrown at him.
Pakistan had a very troubled build up to the 2016 ICC World T20, with no one sure of their particiaption in the mega event due to the dampened political ties between the two countries. One problem finished, another took birth. Upon ariving in Kolkata, India, Afridi made comments that will forver go down in the history books as one of the most controversial comments by a Pakistani cricketer ever.
Afridi claimed that him and his teammates have always beem loved in India, and went as far as saying that the Indian fans have given more love to them than the Pakistan fans. Those comments sure got Afridi slammed by both fans and media back home.
But just when everybody though that was not enough, another massive controversy got Afridi caught and bowled. His ‘Kashmir’comments following Tuesday’s defeat to New Zealand sparked massive outrage from the Indian board and media who heavily criticized the timing and nature of the comments.
