Wahab wicket of Usman Khawaja, 2nd Test 2016

Usman Khawaja fell early today as the Aussie could not get to his another test hundred. Wahab Riaz picked him up behind the stumps. It was a wide delivery that swung away from the left hander and Khawaja tried to chase this one and nicked it to the wicket keeper.

This was the first wicket that fell for the day. Wahab Riaz initial few overs were really good but then once again he started hitting the ball all over the pitch. There was no precise line and length from him and as a result the Australian batters went into the comfort zone again.

Wahab Riaz did bowl some good overs right at the start of the day’s play. This shot from Khawaja was poor but it showed that the Australians are mentally tough in their cricket. He went after the ball to hit and get to his hundred. Now it was the start of the day and Pakistan needed wickets to get back into the game. They lost the early advantage yesterday as well. This time it was almost the repeat performance from Pakistan like yesterday. A wicket at the start of the day and then nothing.

This ball was already outside the off stump and Wahab made it swung away more on the off side. Khawaja foot was not fully stretched. He was trying to hit the ball on the off side and in the gap. The pace on this one was good enough to beat him all ends up.

The ball hit the upper half of the bat and went straight to Sarfraz Ahmed. Pakistan got the wicket they were looking for. Khawaja was the second best batsman from the Aussie line up and Pakistan were able to get him out. But soon after this Wahab started to bowl wavered and then the hat trick of no balls occurred. It was horrible to see all that.

Wahab issues with the no balls is not a new thing. He bowled 12 in England and already has bowled the half of it in Australia with one test remaining to be played. Now the issue is that Pakistan has no better option to replace him. Rahat Ali and Imran Khan are the two bowlers sitting in the dugout. They have not performed that exceptionally. Pakistan will have to alter all their plans against Australia. The UAE mindset will fail here and it has in the first test. Misbah and his men will have to come out with a better plan in this and the next test.
